07-10-18 Umbel Songbird Banding

This field note explores bird banding efforts by the University of Montana Bird Ecology Lab on four days between late May and Early July.

We banded songbirds on the northern floodplain on four days between late May and early July: May 30th, June 20th, June 26th, and July 6th.

On June 26th we captured a second-year male Bullock’s Oriole (left) and an after second-year male Bullock’s Oriole (right) in the same net.

Although we occasionally capture this species in the fall, this is the first White-breasted Nuthatch ever captured during the summer breeding season.

We captured males of all three species of MPG Ranch’s commonly-occurring Hummingbirds on July 7th.
