Monarch Sightings 2020 Update

This summer, a team of volunteers surveyed milkweed in the Bitterroot Valley for monarch adults, eggs, and larvae.

Most of the eggs at Fort Missoula did not hatch.

Staff at MPG Ranch sighted monarchs three times between June 10th and 13th.

None of the 17 harvested eggs hatched.

Even though monarch larvae are brightly colored, it is challenging to find them in large patches of milkweed.

I reared all five caterpillars collected on MPG Ranch in glass jar

We released all five tagged monarchs on MPG Ranch with a celebration.
