Displaying male dusky grouse fan their tails, raise eye combs, and inflate reddish air sacs.

A vesper sparrow, foraging in lower Tongue Creek, sports an aluminum leg band. A glacier lily blooms in a high-elevation conifer forest.

Facing a blocked path, a large lady bug climbs over a smaller one. Below, an osprey lumbers with a lump of sod from the south center pivot field.

A female Brewer’s blackbird scolds when I peer at her empty nest, above. Several days later, three brown, mottled eggs line the bottom.

A mourning dove’s nest remains hidden under bowed grass until I approach too closely and flush the bird. Below, a caterpillar crosses the road and safely reaches the other side.
