April 2021 Field Notes and Observations

Drought-Net, badger, porcupine, willows, dusky grouse, pasque flower

We installed a long-term Drought-Net study on Upper Indian Ridge.

Last year, Chuck sprayed several knapweed and cinquefoil invasion sites.

We continued to remove metal exclosures from the landscape.

We also removed several plastic exclosures from the landscape.

As we pruned the orchard, we noticed several branches that had been damaged by a hungry porcupine.

The culprit was hiding out in a culvert in the orchard.

We planted 1,000+ willow cuttings into matted reed canary grass in the North Floodplain.

We often see signs of badgers on the landscape but rarely see them in the flesh.

Pasque flowers waited for the warmth of the morning sun to unfurl their petals.

A faint low hoot led me to this dusky grouse who was in search of a mate.

We saw every type of weather in April.
