2019 Fall Raptor Migration Summary

We conducted our 9th fall migration survey, counting 5,397 raptors from September 3rd to November 12th, 2019.

As usual, we counted more Turkey Vultures and Red-tailed Hawks than any other species

On September 30, we counted 1,078 migrants—the highest daily total we’ve ever recorded

We had six satellite transmitters to potentially deploy on Cooper’s Hawks, Red-tailed Hawks, and Peregrine Falcons.

We put transmitters on two adult female Cooper’s Hawks: Ava and Marie.

Marrie appears to be spending most of her time in the actual town of Kermit, TX.

We outfitted Monarch, Fender, and Gibson with GPS transmitters this fall.

Our counters this season included: Paul Tuck, Blake Hepner, Jenna Millsap, and leader Kerr Rasmussen.
