We planted sainfoin into a cheatgrass and crested wheatgrass dominated area on the north end of the ranch in 2010.

We broke the sainfoin field into nine plots that we will drill and broadcast seed with a mixture of forbs, grasses, or grasses and forbs perpendicular to the drilled sainfoin.

In each seeding treatment we will add two, 12 x 12 ft. exclosures into areas with sainfoin and natives, and the strips with no sainfoin. The exclosures will allow us to examine how sainfoin diversification changes with no grazing pressure.
