youth hunt

Youth hunters from the Missoula and Bitterroot valleys completed a hunter education course taught by certified instructor Craig Jourdonnais. Following the course, twelve students participated in an advanced field day at MPG on Sunday, October 19. During the day, students, parents, and volunteers reviewed important aspects of safe and ethical hunting: the history of people and wildlife in the Bitterroot valley, safety precautions during hunting season and use of bear spray, shooting their own rifles using non-lead ammunition, and the importance of healthy habitat for wildlife and game. While hunting, students are accompanied by a non-hunting adult. The students have been on game throughout the rifle season. While opening weekend was not very productive, the happy youth hunter below was able to take a cow elk the following weekend.
